In the last few years, there have been many advancements in orthodontic treatment, especially in terms of hidden braces. However, whilst some orthodontic treatments are now more discreet, in most cases, to get the desired results treatment lasts as long as traditional metal braces. However, at Southview Dental Care, we can provide much quicker results with Fastbraces®.
What are Fastbraces®?
Typically, treatment with traditional braces takes roughly two years, with the crown of the teeth moving in the first year, followed by the roots moving in the second year of treatment. In contrast, Fastbraces® are designed to move both the crowns and roots of the teeth at the same time. This means that teeth start to move towards the desired position from the very start of treatment. As with other orthodontic treatments, a customised plan is designed for each patient. At an initial consultation, a dentist will always take a series of radiographs and pictures of the patient’s teeth to help decide on the best treatment plan.
Other than the length of the treatment, one of the negatives of traditional braces is that regular tightening procedures are needed and the orthodontic wire must be changed at each appointment, leaving the teeth feeling extremely sensitive. In most cases, Fastbraces® technology only requires one orthodontic wire throughout the treatment process. Research suggests that Fastbraces® use lower frictional forces and as a result, there is a clear reduction in sliding friction and pain.
Just how fast are Fastbraces®?
Orthodontic treatment using Fastbraces® allows teeth to be straightened in a matter of weeks or months, rather than years. In most cases, if the patient’s bone responds really well to treatment, a complete Fastbraces® plan can be completed in around 20 weeks. The procedure for fitting the brace is also relatively fast and pain free – this takes around 45 minutes, and check-up appointments during the treatment period will take on 15 or 20 minutes.
What are the results like when compared with other orthodontic treatments?
Once treatment is complete, patients can be happy with their straighter teeth and beautiful smile. After treatment, to retain the pleasing results, patients either need to wear retainers at night, or for only 20 minutes per day, dependent on the dentist’s instructions.
