In the UK, teeth whitening is fast becoming one of the most popular cosmetic treatments and it’s not surprising why. As we compare our smiles to the flawless smiles of Hollywood and become more aware of the need to keep ourselves healthy and youthful, our dull, stained teeth are one of the first things we notice.
Professional tooth whitening is becoming much more affordable and can bring many benefits to your appearance, health and confidence. But, is it worth it?
First of all, let’s look at how the teeth whitening process works.
How Teeth Whitening Works
Professional teeth whitening describes the bleaching of teeth to lift stains and discolouration from the tooth surface, or enamel and in the process, lightening teeth by up to several shades. Here at Southview Dental Care our procedure is simple, gentle and effective and will leave you with a smile you can be proud of.
Once we have determined whether or not you are suitable for teeth whitening, as it will not be for everybody, we’ll prepare a set of custom-made gel trays so you can begin the whitening process at home. You simply apply the gel at home for 7-10 days, wearing the trays overnight, to lighten your teeth to the required shade. We’ll show you how to use the trays whilst you’re in the practice and if you have any questions we’ll be happy to answer them before or during your treatment.
Treatment will reduce the darkening and shading on your teeth caused by general ageing, smoking or consuming tea, coffee and red wine. How long the new whiteness lasts will depend upon your lifestyle following the treatment, but if you look after your teeth well, it could last for several years.
Treatment at Southview Dental Care starts from £350 and to help you decide whether it is worth it or not, here’s some advice on whether teeth whitening is right for you.
Is Teeth Whitening Right for You?
There are lots of aesthetic and psychological advantages to having whiter teeth, including:
- Whiter teeth may help you to make a better first impression – after all it is your smile that people notice first, so rather than hide your smile because you’re embarrassed about discoloured teeth, undergoing treatment may boost your confidence so you can make a better first impression.
- Whiter teeth can make you look younger – we associate yellow teeth with ageing, so whitening your teeth can contribute to a more youthful appearance.
- Whiter teeth can boost your confidence at a special occasion – if you’re getting married soon or have a big social occasion coming up, your stained teeth might be making you nervous about smiling in photographs. By having your teeth whitened you’ll feel more confident about showing off your brighter smile!
- Whiter teeth can lead to better oral hygiene – once your teeth have been whitened and you can see the benefits of improved confidence that they bring, you won’t want anything to ruin their appearance so you will be more likely to look after your teeth and gums, which means an improved overall oral health routine.
